Since going snowboarding last year with my family, I have desperately wanted to go back! I plan to go next year in August and have put together a little planning guide for those who plan to do the same.
First things first, you will need to decide which slopes you want to go to… I have been to Perisher and I loved it but want to try out a different slope this time.
If you still haven’t figured out where you want to go check out this website – it includes all of the slopes in Australia as well as maps, conditions and summaries for each one!
The second thing you need to think about is where you will be staying. We plan on staying in the van to avoid the cost of accommodation as it is quite expensive (for our budget) but if you don’t have a plan B to avoid this cost you will need to find somewhere close to the slopes you want to go to.
Tip: Look at surrounding towns to find the cheapest option
Then you will need to decide how you’re going to get there, we plan to drive but if you plan on flying down you will need to look at flights for the dates you chose when booking accommodation. If you choose to drive down then you will need to account for petrol and food along the way..
This section is for those who decide to drive down. You will need to pack enough food for the journey if you are planning to stop along the way this will make your trip longer and you will need to pack more food to account for this. It is always a good idea to keep some coinage or a bit of money set aside for takeaway or groceries to stock up just in case you run out of food. Opt for long life products when it comes to milk and anything that would otherwise need to be refrigerated – and a gas cooker is a must-have!
Ski resort expenses
You will need to factor in the expenses for your snowboard hire – if you don’t already own a snowboard – as well as your ski lift hire. There are prices on each ski resorts website that can help you in figuring out how much it will cost.
And most importantly…
