I entered a competition on Facebook to win a free photo shoot through a company called Studio Republic back in March. I never thought I would actually win but a week or so later I received a call from one of the staff members at the studio telling me that I had been selected as one of the winners!
What did I win?
I won a pin-up photo shoot experience which included a stylist, makeup artist, photographer and producer. I got to choose two styles for the shoot as well as outfits and accessories to be used on the day. The only thing I had to pay for were the photos but they also gave me a $100 discount which was awesome!
About the company
Studio Republic is an International Award Winning Boutique Art Portrait Studio located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. This innovative studio is owned and founded by Traci Castle who has managed to completely change the entire photography industry and set new expectations that competitors will find hard to top. She has combined on-trend makeup artistry, fashion styling and highly trained expert photographers and created a killer company that is light years ahead of their competition. With access to the latest advances in technology – which is usually reserved for the high end film and fashion industries – as well as an on site cafe for your coffee needs, the results have been a huge success and her efforts and entrepreneurial drive is so inspiring.
Instant amazement is guaranteed when you first walk through the doors at Studio Republic, the style and layout of the studio is absolutely stunning with a minimalist, contemporary yet undeniably functional feel. The studio is a part of a Creative Hub in Maroochydore which includes their studios, a fashion house and a cute little cafe. It’s safe to say that Studio Republic exceeded all of my expectations before I walked more than a few metres inside the doors and it just seemed to keep getting better everywhere I turned.
Since the studio was up in Maroochydore I had to travel a bit over two hours north to get there but it was definitely worth it! I have never been in any sort of photo shoot before and I am quite introverted, I have never even been too fond of taking pictures of myself or having other people take pictures of me so this was a huge step out of my comfort zone. I was reassured by one of the girls on the phone that experience and/or knowledge within the modelling industry was not required and that the photographer would be guiding me through every step along the way – which made me feel a lot better.
I got to choose 2 different styles for the photo shoot and eventually chose to do 60s vintage/rockabilly and a boho/festival style. I went absolutely nuts shopping and bought so many options because I couldn’t decide on my outfits and I figured the girls would help me with styling on the day.
When I first arrived I handed over all of my clothes, shoes and accessories so the girls could get my outfits ready, filled out all the paperwork, and then it was time to get my makeup done. I hardly wear makeup and prefer not to but there was something about having someone doing my makeup while someone else was doing my hair that was really fun and exciting. The makeup artists and stylists at Studio Republic are beyond talented and I was super happy with the finished results.
After my hair and makeup I got changed and then met the photographer. He was absolutely amazing and really helped me with posing and guided me through everything as I had never done a photo shoot and had absolutely no clue what to do. After the photo shoot I got to see all of the photos that were taken and choose how many I wanted to buy which was the hardest part of the day by far. There was so many photos that I loved and my budget only let me get 6 of them.
Overall, my experience at Studio Republic was something I will never forget. I had so much fun and am so glad I did it, I have gained so much confidence from the shoot and am looking forward to getting more done! I highly recommend that you visit Studio Republic if you are thinking of getting a photo shoot done for your portfolio or even just to look back on in the future, it is 100% worth it!
